Amal Fashanu attended a meeting with David Cameron to discuss racism in football at 10 Downing Street on February 22, 2012 in London, England.  Racism in English football has become a major issue after a series of  recent high-profile incidents.  This is an issue close to her heart; she is the daughter of John Fashanu and niece of Justin Fashanu, her late uncle who was the only professional footballer in Britain ever to come out publicly as gay.

Amal has also been campaigning both to honour her uncle’s memory and fight homophobia in the game.  Read the moving account of her campaign in her words here:  Since she started, it has emerged that Premier League clubs are now expected to sign the Sports Charter, which includes a pledge to combat homophobia.  Keep up the good work Amal.

So what does a girl wear to meet the prime minster to discuss a serious issue such as racism in football?  The lovely and talented Amal chose Mo Saïque Bonica boots in black and a Gomez Gracia dress for the occasion and I’m sure you’ll agree that she looks great.  Mo Saïque and Gomez Gracia also teamed up to dress the semi-finalists of Estonia’s Next Top Model.  Watch this space for blog posts soon.

ROBILANT + VOENA are hosting a major exhibition of acclaimed American artist DAVID LACHAPELLE which opened in February across three European locations – London, Milan and St.Moritz.  The series Earth Laughs in Flowers was first shown at Hannover’s Kestnergesellschaft Museum in spring 2011. With titles such as “Springtime”, “Late Summer”, “Early Fall” and “Deathless Winter” the works refer to the four seasons and allude to the life cycle: from birth to death.  Click here to read more @ ROBILANT + VOENA.

The sun was shining in London today so I went to their Dover Street gallery in London and thoroughly enjoyed the exhibition.  What a shame I missed the public lecture by the artist! The more you stare at a David LeChapelle, the more you find.  Well worth a visit, it’s a wonderful exhibition.  And a bonus, it’s right across the street from Dover Street Market where I went for coffee and browse afterwards.

Anna Wintour, Editor-in-Chief, US Vogue with designer Myra Nigris of HEMYCA

Anna Wintour, Editor-in-chief at US VOGUE, was the first to arrive at the presentation to preview the HEMYCA A/W2012 Collection.  The collection, “A World of Glass”,  was presented in the beautiful Great Room at 1508, in a mixture of static exhibition and live models wearing Mo Saïque Bonica boots in black which were loved by all the fashion directors.

Designers Helen Clinch and Myra Nigris walked through the collection with Anna, discussing each piece in detail. Anna was keen to learn more about HEMYCA, asking their thoughts on showing in New York and was interested to know which stores in New York stocked HEMYCA and where the designers would like to be stocked in the near future.

Each of the guests heavily praised the collection as a whole; with Anna Wintour exclaiming it as “beautiful” and that the presentation space was fantastic. The use of laser-cut leather and strong metals against delicate chiffon, faux fur and printed wools were hailed as brilliant and inspired by the guests.

Anna Wintour attends Tom Ford and HEMYCA presentations at 1508 London

It’s not everyday you end up in the same building as Anna Wintour and Tom Ford both but the HEMYCA AW2012 presentation managed exactly that.

And the clothes were equally exciting.  “A World of Glass” collection recognises the strength, determination and compassion needed to overcome the fragility of the world we live in today.  Fitted elegance and stark lines drawn from the Deco era are deeply rooted throughout the collection, brought to life in delicate chiffon, faux fur and printed wools.  And all presented with MO SAÏQUE’s Bonica boots in black, a hit with numerous fashion editors in attendance.

HEMYCA was recently awarded “the brightest and most directional fashion brand in the UK” by Fashion Press week and showcased alongside Alexander McQueen, Burberry, Paul Smith, Sonia Rykiel and Giles as part of the international Campaign for Wool by Woolmark.  We were very excited to be a part of this show.

MO SAÏQUE’s Bonica boots  debuts at London Fashion Week

To support the debut of our Bonica boots at London Fashion Week, we were joined by Dutch actress, the lovely, gorgeous and talented Victoria Koblenko, whose individual style lit up the room (see below for her silver foiled ears and watch this space for further posts on her style).  Our lovely friend Orna Theobald also joined us.  Orna and her twin Fiona are currently the faces of Dubai’s twin campaign.  Thank you ladies for your support.

LFW: Deco delights at Maria Grachvogel A/W 2012‎

Watch the video of the show HERE .

I am a huge fan of Maria Grachvogel so was delighted and excited to be invited to  AW2012 show for London Fashion week, at the Savoy Hotel.  I joined her backstage after the show and it’s incredible how calm she was,  and so she should be, the collection was just breathtaking and I left NEEDING a number of pieces in my life!

The collection is a celebration of colour, print and texture with a nod to Deco and the speakeasy jazz era: a time of female confidence and new freedom of dress, as her press statement describes it.  The palette is decadent with rich shades of garnet, periot and petrel blue, which sit alongside autumnal neutrals of almond and teak.  Maria’s exclusive artwork prints inject a bold and jubilant explosion into the collection: think peridot fireworks against a smoky background. The fabrics are rich and varied with beaten satin jewelled shades, touches of distressed gold lame combined with gentleman’s winter tweed and leopard jacquard.

The shapes this season have an air of relaxed, contemporary glamour with drop waists and signature draping throughout the collection.  The look is cool and insouciant with relaxed drapey shapes such as cocoon jackets and bubble shaped tops with slouchy oxford bags.  Skirts are key for this season with the introduction of three new silhouettes designed to suit every body shape.  Pencil skirts are given a new season feel with drop waisted pockets; then there is the bubble shaped Elligton and the Charleston flippy skirts.  Coats are structured yet slouchy and add to the androgynous feel.

This season also sees the second footwear collection of Atalanta Weller for Maria Grachvogel.  The collection consists of ‘skyscraper’ futuristic wedges in both ankle and knee high boots with an almond shaped toe, offered in black, pewter and bone.  And whilst I loved each and everyone of them, my friend Alex asked, why does she have to pair such wonderful clothes with builders boots? I disagree, I felt it brought an edgier feel to the collection and hence why I will be emailing the lovely Maria shortly to place my orders!
