LFW: Deco delights at Maria Grachvogel A/W 2012‎

I am a huge fan of Maria Grachvogel so was delighted and excited to be invited to  AW2012 show for London Fashion week, at the Savoy Hotel.  I joined her backstage after the show and it’s incredible how calm she was,  and so she should be, the collection was just breathtaking and I left NEEDING a number of pieces in my life!

The collection is a celebration of colour, print and texture with a nod to Deco and the speakeasy jazz era: a time of female confidence and new freedom of dress, as her press statement describes it.  The palette is decadent with rich shades of garnet, periot and petrel blue, which sit alongside autumnal neutrals of almond and teak.  Maria’s exclusive artwork prints inject a bold and jubilant explosion into the collection: think peridot fireworks against a smoky background. The fabrics are rich and varied with beaten satin jewelled shades, touches of distressed gold lame combined with gentleman’s winter tweed and leopard jacquard.

The shapes this season have an air of relaxed, contemporary glamour with drop waists and signature draping throughout the collection.  The look is cool and insouciant with relaxed drapey shapes such as cocoon jackets and bubble shaped tops with slouchy oxford bags.  Skirts are key for this season with the introduction of three new silhouettes designed to suit every body shape.  Pencil skirts are given a new season feel with drop waisted pockets; then there is the bubble shaped Elligton and the Charleston flippy skirts.  Coats are structured yet slouchy and add to the androgynous feel.

This season also sees the second footwear collection of Atalanta Weller for Maria Grachvogel.  The collection consists of ‘skyscraper’ futuristic wedges in both ankle and knee high boots with an almond shaped toe, offered in black, pewter and bone.  And whilst I loved each and everyone of them, my friend Alex asked, why does she have to pair such wonderful clothes with builders boots? I disagree, I felt it brought an edgier feel to the collection and hence why I will be emailing the lovely Maria shortly to place my orders!
