Sneaker pimps!

Luxe sportswear has been around for a good few seasons now, but with the Olympics round the corner, we have seen a number of fashionistas and designer backing the trend more and more.  Even Karl Lagerfeld has paid homage to this trend recently with  his collections for Chanel and collaboration with Hogan.

The growing trend in ‘pimped out’ and ‘blingtastic’ trainers had us talking recently.  One of our style crushes du jour, the lovely Victoria Koblenko, recently lit up a room with her fab Giuseppe Zanotti sneakers above.  Literally had all gals and guys swooning, but then, Victoria is famous for her extravagant wardrobe and her impressive shoe collection; we recently dedicated a post to her style here.

A number of style bloggers have also been ‘pimping up’ their sneakers and designers are increasingly adding these to their lines.  We absolutely love Karen Blanchard’s (of wheredidugetthat) diy customised converse and Chiara Ferragni’s (of The Blonde Salad) Isabela Marant sneakers.  Relaxed effortless chic!  Victoria, Karen and Chiara, we salute you! Definitely worth checking out the blogs of these super stylish ladies – details below!

Here are a few of our favourite sports luxe sneakers.  What do you think?

We love these ‘high-brow and über modern’ Giuseppe Zanotti leather high-top sneakers embellished with gold straps we found on retrovintageshoes.com (images courtsey of net-a-porter.com).  Alas sold out but we found a couple below from his current collection which are equally gorgeous.

Left: Dove gray nappa and suede high-top sneakers with two zippers at sides and light gold-tone plate on front  Right: Silver mirror-effect calfskin high top sneaker both by Giuseppe Zanotti.

Christian Louboutin proved he’s not all about red, sky-high heels with these patent leather sneakers smattered with silver studs (courtesy of retrovintageshoes.com). These shold out a while ago but we found a few below which are just as fun.

Madonna’s New Dare as she launches her shoe collection

Madonna has teamed up with Aldo and is launching her first shoe collection in August, under the new Truth or Dare label.  The label is owned by MG Icon, a joint venture between Madonna, her manager, Guy Oseary and Iconix Brand Group.  The collection also marks the first license agreement for Aldo.

The initial collection consists of more than 60 styles including flats, heels, booties and over-the-knee boots, set to retail for $89 to $349 and aimed at 27-50 year old women.  Madonna’s friend, stylist and “W.E” costume designer Arianne Phillips serves as the collection’s creative consultant, but the pop superstar herself will also have constant input into the line’s development.

“Her fingers are really on this brand,” Phillips told Footwear News. “The first thing I did was remind her of all the shoes she wore over the years, and we took the styles that we can’t live without. You can always depend on her to bring her style and provocateur quality, but she also has a very feminine perspective.”

The collection is expected to be stocked by a number of major retailers including Nordstrom, Asos.com and Macy’s, which was also a launch partner for Madonna’s first retail project: the Material girl collection that hit in August 2010.  Selfridges in the UK will also create a pop-up shop for the collection and the brand is expected to expand globally to Germany, France, Spain and Italy in 2013.

In addition to shoes, the Truth or Dare brand will launch intimates later this year and is in discussions about legwear and additional accessories for 2013.

The Macy’s team was impressed by the brand’s “great dress shoes and boots” and expect their customers to be excited by the collection.  What do you think of the initial press photographs?

We were proud to make “Nostalgia”,  the AW12 collection of Eki Orleans come alive with our MO SAÏQUE heels at the ARISE Fashion Week 2012. The designer Hazel Aggrey-Orleans, looked to the sensual shape of the calabash musical instrument for inspiration and created delicate draped and curve-enhancing pieces.

There is just something about draped dresses… they evoke a nostalgic old world charm and melancholy while remaining sensual and seductive….which I just love!
